Jenni Rivera’s Children Detailed Plans for Posthumous Single and Album

Jenni Rivera’s children have confirmed that new music from the late Mexican music star is on the way, with a posthumous single called “Misión Cumplida” due out on November 9.

Rivera’s children — Chiquis, Johnny, Jenicka, Mike, and Jacqie — first spoke at length about their plans to release Jenni’s forthcoming album, which includes unreleased music, during Billboard’s “Children of Jenni Rivera” panel on Sept. 27.

Johnny, the youngest sibling, appeared with a photo of his mother on his shirt, which he later revealed was cover art for Misión Cumplida.

“It’s a really special track,” Johnny said of the single, adding that it was written by Jenni in 2008. “I had them [hand-written lyrics] in my room since 2016,” he said, but it wasn’t until that year that he found the song on an old hard drive and realized for the first time that it had actually been recorded.

The rest of the project “fitted together” as Johnny passed his discoveries on to Jenni’s manager, who then hired Banda MS’s Sergio Lizárraga to produce the single. Lizárraga reached out to some of Jenni’s former collaborators, who also had many new ideas for the track. Describing the song’s creative process, Jacqie added, “We didn’t have to make it happen…she puts it all together.”

The remainder of the panel focused on Jenni’s long-standing legacy in Mexican music, including her influence on daughter Chiqui’s music career. The singer has been nominated for her fourth album, Abeja Reina, in the Banda Music Albums category at the upcoming Latin Grammys.
