Jaylen Brown Trade Rumors 2023: Possible Brown Trade Packages

As the Boston Celtics endured yet another disappointing end to the season, rumors of a 2023 transfer from Jaylen Brown have surfaced. There’s an ongoing debate over whether the Celtics should sign, keep or trade him and there are obvious pros and cons to all options.

Brown played his way into an All-NBA Supermax contract. He could land a mega deal this summer and obviously most of the Celtics’ offseason plans would hinge on it. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the Celtics’ trade ideas and possible goals for their two-way stud.

Jaylen Brown Trade Rumors 2023

The series against the Miami Heat put a renewed spotlight on the recent rivalry between Tatum and Butler. But Brown was nowhere to be found, leaving many to be desired, making people question whether they should sign him for such a big contract extension or ditch their fledgling duo once and for all.

Brown is one of the most promising players in the league and, despite his young age, has plenty of playoff experience. That’s what makes judging the Jaylen Brown trade rumors in 2023 so difficult, but we’ll do our best in the following paragraphs.

Blazers have two offerings

It’s impossible not to think of the Portland Trail Blazers when discussing potential trade news with Jaylen Brown. They have a clear need for another star, either to pair up with Damian Lillard or trade entirely for their franchise player. Let’s break it down.

First off, the Blazers might decide they aren’t immediately ready to fight for a championship and decide to let Lillard go to a competitor like the Boston Celtics while also getting a young building block and a new franchise player. They could pair him with Anfernee Simons and this year’s third overall winner to prepare for the future.

That would allow the Celtics to finally get a scoring guard and real playoff performer like Lillard, and the Blazers would sign their new franchise player for years to come while still having two youngsters to build around .

The other scenario is slightly different. The Blazers could do without Anfernee Simons, Nassir Little and the third overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft to bring in Jaylen Brown and make one last attempt to give Damian Lillard a competitor. The Celtics could then sign Scoot Henderson or Brandon Miller, or even trade that pick for another All-Star.

Knicks get a star

The New York Knicks have been longing for a star for a long time. And they now have Jalen Brunson, who looks like a star-to-be but clearly can’t compete on his own. But pairing him with a solid two-way player like Jaylen Brown could put the team in the right direction.

The Knicks will have a new GM, so he might try to make a mark early in his tenure by adding another star. They could get Brown in exchange for RJ Barrett, Quentin Grimes, Josh Hart (sign-and-trade) and two future first-round picks. The Celtics would add plenty of depth and valuable draft capital.

This is unlikely to be the most conspicuous scenario for any of the parties involved. But Brown would get a chance to start fresh and become a legend in New York while the Celtics retool and reshape their roster around Jayson Tatum as they should.

Ime Udoka takes him to Houston

Jaylen Brown’s 2023 transfer rumors were, for the most part, involving the Houston Rockets, and for very good reasons. The Rockets just hired Ime Udoka, who had strong ties and a close relationship with Brown, so obviously there’s a consensus here.

The Rockets have made it clear that they want to compete now, not in the future. With that in mind, they could be looking to bring James Harden back, meaning there’s no room for Jalen Green. Should that be the case, they could also be without Jae’Sean Tate, fourth overall winner and another future first-rounder.

That wouldn’t be the best for the Rockets’ future. Even though Green has picked up some bad habits on the pitch, he’s still younger than Brown and has great potential. Harden isn’t getting any younger and they still won’t be good enough to aspire to a ring.

Homecoming to Atlanta

Finally, the Celtics could send Brown back to Georgia with a blockbuster deal with the Atlanta Hawks. In this scenario, he and Malcolm Brogdon would go to Atlanta in exchange for Trae Young, Onyeka Okongwu, Bogdan Bogdanovic, their first-round pick in 2023, and another future first-round pick.

There has been much talk of Trae Young reportedly wanting to leave, with the Hawks calling for their all-star guard. He would get a chance to play for a championship contender, and the Celtics would also sign a young, promising, defensive-minded big man and a sniper, not to mention two future draft picks.

It could be argued that the Hawks would lose this trade as they would add two older players and Brogdon could be redundant with Dejounte Murray also on the team. But if the rumors that Young would outlast his Atlanta stint are true, they could add up by subtracting letting him go and building around Murray or someone else. Maybe that’s all they need to get over the mountain.
