(CNN) — Jason Geiger, aka Austin St. John, the actor who played the Red Power Ranger on the television series “Power Rangers,” has been indicted and has pleaded not guilty to charges of wire fraud for his role in a COVID – Relief fund program, according to the indictment filed in Texas.
Geiger is one of 19 people named in a federal indictment alleging that the defendants registered and used bogus, non-operating entities or other existing entities under which they could file PPP loan applications.
The indictment alleges that on June 17, 2020, Geiger took out a loan for a company titled “St. John Enterprises, which was funded approximately $225,754.
“The defendants used the PPP funds for unauthorized personal purposes, including cash withdrawals, purchases of gold and silver, luxury jewelry and vehicles,” the indictment said.
According to a US Attorney’s Office press release, 18 of the 19 defendants have either been arrested or summoned to appear before a federal judge.
The FBI Dallas Division told CNN that Geiger was arrested Tuesday at an apartment in McKinney, TX. Geiger was charged on Wednesday and will next appear in court on May 24, according to court documents.
“All of the accused are presumed innocent and Mr. Geiger intends to vigorously defend himself against this allegation,” Geiger’s attorney, David Klaudt, said in a statement.
Geiger appeared on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which aired from 1993 to 1999, as well as several spin-off projects.
