Jannik Sinner Steps for Hurkacz Hurkacz rematch in Turin | ATP Tour

He had to wait more than seven months, but Jannik Sinner will finally have his singles rematch with Hubert Hurkacz on Tuesday as he prepares for his first Nitto ATP Finals appearance.

The 20-year-old will make his Turin debut as a substitute, after the substitution Matteo Berrettini in the draw when he withdraw due to abdominal trauma. Earlier in the tournament, Berrettini was forced to miss the opening match against Alexander Zverev, leading 7-6 (7), 1-0.

Sinner, who hails from northern Italy, nearly missed the knockout stage on the ATP season finale – held for the first time on his home turf – after Casper RuudThe belated rise robbed him of eighth place. He will now face Hurkacz for the second time this season, in a rematch of their tight contention. Miami Open presented by Itau Final.

Seventh-seeded Pole stuns on the court in South Florida en route to his first ATP Masters 1000 title. In the final, he beat his good friend and regular doubles partner Sinner 7-6 (4), 6-4. The pair teamed up as recently as August, but they’re now used to increasingly finding themselves on opposite sides of the net.

“I think we are both very young. If all goes well, we both hope to play tennis for many more years. I think for sure we’ll see us again in some tournament, in doubles,” Sinner said after the Miami final. “I’m looking forward to playing him again in singles, getting revenge and seeing what I can do against Hubi.”

Hurkacz will be looking to start his Red Team campaign and hope to beat a three-set loss first Daniil Medvedev on Sunday. The Pole has pushed the world number 2 to its own limit Nitto ATP Finals debut, although the Russians used fast conditions to their advantage in 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4 respectively.

“I still have a chance to qualify for the group stage, which is great. I will continue to fight and then continue to believe in myself,” Hurkacz said after the match. “I will try to stay optimistic. OK, I lost this match, but I will think about the positives and what I can do better and prepare for the next one.”
