In an interview with People, Curtis shared that she was uncomfortable with the nude scene in the comedy, specifically when Ophelia undressed in front of Louis. She caught him staring and covering his chest before telling him he had to “sleep on the couch.” Curtis explained that she was in her early 20s during the film’s production, implying that she felt she had to shoot scenes that were deemed unnecessary due to her young age.
“[T]he asked Ophelia to take off her dress. Would I like to do that? Is not. Do I feel embarrassed doing it? Yes. Do I look fine? Yes. Do I know what I’m doing? Yes. Do I like it? Is not. I do it because it’s work? Yes,” Curtis said. She then asserted that she “wouldn’t do it today”, partly because she is now a wife and a mother.
Curtis, however, shared that she was grateful to have played Ophelia in an interview on Vanity Fair 2019. The actress explained that she and Landis had a working relationship, as she recounted. his 1982 documentary “Coming Soon”. According to Curtis, after completing that project, he asked her to play Ophelia. The “Freaky Friday” star revealed that Landis had to convince Paramount Pictures to let her star in “Trading Places”.
“I will always be incredibly grateful to him for not only having the courage to say, ‘no, this is who I want,’ but for giving me this incredible opportunity,” she said.
