Jamie Kah and Craig Williams rushed to hospital after horrific crash at Flemington races: ‘She was unconscious’

Star jockeys Jamie Kah and Craig Williams have been hospitalized after horrific falls in Flemington on Saturday.
Competing in the $300,000 Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes, the pair were edged out about halfway through the race by their respective mounts, Flyball and Dubenenko.

Kah kept falling unconscious while being examined by paramedics at the circuit, but has since shown signs of marked improvement.
She was driven to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in the first ambulance to arrive in Flemington before a second came to collect Williams.
Williams has a broken collarbone and is being evaluated at Alfred Hospital.
Jockeys’ Association CEO Matt Hyland joined Channel 7’s Bruce McAvaney to keep up with what’s happening.
“Both drivers suffered a blow to the head, especially Jamie,” he said.
“She was unconscious for a while but thankfully is now conscious and is being taken to Royal Melbourne (Hospital).
“It seems like everything else is fine; When I was over there, she responded to the paramedics. She received a pretty bad blow to the head.
“As for Craig, he definitely seems to have a shoulder or collarbone injury, and he also had a hit to the head.”
Kah’s partner Ben Melham was aboard the Sirileo Miss for the next race, which he won, before giving up his last two trips for the day to rush to the hospital to be with her.
“I’m going to put the cue in the rack for the day and just make sure she’s okay,” Melham said after the race.
“It’s just a reminder of how dangerous the job can be, in the last week or so and right now. Winners are not so important as long as everyone is doing well.”
Both horses suffered minor abrasions and will be examined again by a vet on Sunday morning.
The remaining races for the meet were delayed as paramedics took time to safely assess Kah and transport the injured couple off the racetrack.
Big upset win for Australian Jordan Thompson over world No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas.
