Ja’Marr Chase playfully shadows former LSU teammate Justin Jefferson: ‘Stole all my moves’

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase jokes that Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson “stole” his moves while the two were at LSU.

Ahead of the start of the 2022 season, there’s a testy conversation among NFL wideouts: who’s the best of them all?

The conversation even extends to positions other than Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs was asked to rank his top five wide receivers. His brother, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs, predictably, topped the list.

But Trevon’s choice #4 wasn’t on the printed list, so he wrote in his name: Ja’Marr Chase. Chase was ahead of Diggs’ teammate CeeDee Lamb.

There’s a reason Trevon and others consider Chase to be one of, if not the, best wide receivers in the NFL right now. Chase won a slew of awards in his rookie campaign, including the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.

But there’s something sweeter the always-competitive receiver has won: the title for most receiving yards in a rookie campaign, beating the record set a year earlier by former LSU teammate Justin Jefferson.

Apparently, topping Jefferson’s rookie campaign wasn’t enough for Chase, as he recently insisted he was definitely superior to Jefferson in one interview with CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco.

“I would of course say myself,” Chase said, admitting that Jefferson would say himself as well. “He knows that’s not true. He stole all my moves and now he’s top of the league and now it looks like his moves. He will hear it, he will call me later.”

Jefferson has been on his own ad campaign for the past few weeks, claiming he’s the NFL’s top receiving talent.

He even went so far as to say that Cooper Kupp is “behind” him, to which Kupp replied that he “respectfully disagree‘ with that attitude.

It turns out that Chase is also balking at Jefferson’s bragging rights, going so far as to say that Jefferson stole his moves and debuted them in the NFL before Chase was drafted.

All jokes aside, Jefferson and Chase (and Kupp, for what it’s worth) have been enjoying historic 2021 campaigns. Kupp almost became the first wide receiver to join the 2,000-yard club with 1,947 yards and, in addition to winning Super Bowl LVI MVP, won Offensive Player of the Year honors. Jefferson finished the year with a 1,616-yard season, and Chase surpassed Jefferson’s 1,400-yard rookie year with a record-breaking 1,455-yard season.

Everyone will be subjective — Trevon proved that — but the consensus is that Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase are the exciting future of the position, and they have LSU to thank for it refine their movements.
