Jalen Milroe, Will Anderson Shine

The spring game in Alabama put backup quarterback Jalen Milroe in the spotlight while Will Anderson and Dallas Turner pressed Bryce Young.

The annual Alabama spring game was held on Saturday to give Crimson Tide fans a taste of the 2022 season.

Exciting transfers were on the cards while the rush of passes heated up the heat.

Here are some of the biggest things noticed by A-Day

Alabama Spring Game takeaways

The Alabama Pass Rush is ridiculous

Poor Bryce Young didn’t stand a chance against the Crimson Tide’s defensive line on Saturday, missing two starting offensive linemen.

The starting quarterback has been sacked 10 times, according to the official stat sheet. Will Anderson had two. Dallas Turner also had a pair.

It just doesn’t take far to opposing quarterbacks for both Anderson and Turner to be after them.

Jahmyr Gibbs is dangerous

Georgia Tech transfer running back Jahmyr Gibbs started the game behind Trey Sanders, but he had the highlight of the day for the Crimson team when he broke free for a 75-yard touchdown.

The Big Takeaway: It’s really, really, really fast.

All told, Gibbs had nine carries for 100 yards in his spring game debut in Alabama.

Teammate Jermaine Burton of Georgia caught three passes for 36 yards, including a 22-yard gain.

Jalen Milroe is poised to become Alabama’s next great QB

Young was unlucky to face Alabama’s first-team defense, and his numbers reflected that. He had no touchdowns, one interception and 153 yards on 14 of 29 passes.

On the other hand, Jalen Milroe had an outstanding day. He threw Christian Leary the only touchdown of the day for 52 yards. He also gained a few yards on the ground and put his double threat ability to good use.

Milroe seems poised to step in should the reigning Heisman winner ever need to drop out. But his performance should give Crimson Tide fans a good feel for their quarterback future in 2023, when Young is likely in the NFL.
