Jaguars could have new plans for the No. 1 pick

The Jaguars have been in line for a while to pick No. 1 pick Aidan Hutchinson, but now a new candidate has emerged, according to NFL draft rumors.

As the 2022 NFL draft progressed, there was a time when the Jacksonville Jaguars would certainly pick No. 1 overall pick Michigan edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson. But now a dark horse has flown big and could be in line to have his name called first in Las Vegas: Georgia edge rusher Travon Walker.

With more information coming out, it looks like it’s on fire due to all the smoke surrounding Walker and his draft horses. He’s reportedly top of the list for many teams and the Jaguars appear to be possibly among them.

NFL Draft Rumors: Could the Jaguars Edge Travon Walker Over Aidan Hutchinson for No. 1?

As previously mentioned, Hutchinson is the other most likely contender for first pick overall alongside Walker. Both would be strong options.

Sports Illustrated Jaguars Beat reporter John Shipley analyzed and compared the odds of everyone being number 1.

“Travon Walker not only fits a lot of Trent Baalke’s favorite things on a line of defense (top, length, height), but where there’s smoke there’s usually fire,” Shipley said. “Even if the Jaguars don’t take Walker No. 1, I think the team – and Baalke in particular – hold him in high esteem as a potential customer and that’s why there has been a lot of talk about him.”

Shipley added that he believes Jacksonville and general manager Trent Baalke are actually interested in Walker, largely due to the fact that the Georgia product has a higher cap. However, he went on to say that he still believed the Jags would pick Hutchinson in the end, adding, “I’m not going to change that.”

As is often the case with NFL draft rumors, there seems to be a real case for both players. No matter what, the possibility that Walker is the pick seems legitimate. Jaguars could have new plans for the No. 1 pick
