Jack Morris makes an inappropriate joke about Matt Manning’s injury

Detroit Tigers analyst Jack Morris made an ill-timed joke after hearing an injury update regarding pitcher Matt Manning.

The Detroit Tigers got bad news earlier on Saturday, April 16, when shortstop Javier Baez and pitcher Casey Mize were each placed on the 10-day injury list with right thumb pain and an elbow sprain, respectively. During their game against the Kansas City Royals that day, fans watched starting pitcher Matt Manning walk out after the second inning through an injury.

During the Bally Sports Detroit broadcast, an injury update revealed that Manning had left due to a right shoulder problem. Seconds later, analyst and former Tigers pitcher Jack Morris decided it was the right time for a joke.

Morris said: “I think I can walk, I’ve had right shoulder problems for about 20 years.”

This isn’t the first time Morris’ comments have caught viewers’ attention for the wrong reasons.

During a Tigers game against the Los Angeles Angels last season, Morris used a mock Asian accent when discussing Shohei Ohtani. Morris apologized for the comments and was suspended indefinitely by Bally Sports Detroit. Morris’ suspension lasted 23 days.

It remains to be seen whether Manning will have to sit out much time due to his injury. Manning threw 38 pitches through his two innings of work, where he gave up a deserved five-hit run and hit two batters.

The Royals defeated the Tigers 3-1 on Saturday.
