At the Thomas & Mack Center on Sunday, the Charlotte Hornets defeated the Los Angeles Lakers, 89-86, in double overtime of the NBA 2K23 Summer League. The Summer League Lakers lost their game in Las Vegas 2-0 as they appeared to show respect to the Lakers from last season. Jones’ potential game-winning shot went wide at the last second, forcing a second overtime. As the quarter started, Scotty Pippen Jr. had a chance to win it, but his 3-point attempt went wide and set JT Thor to victory.

It appears that a brawl broke out during the competition and many videos have seen one man hitting another man. Unknown to what sparked the altercation, co-founder and NBA Summer League president Albert Hall was seen responding immediately and physically separating the confrontation.

Rookies Mimicking Last Season’s Lakers Performance?

The Charlotte Hornets defeated the Los Angeles Lakers with a game-winning treble in double overtime on Sunday night. Cole Swider, who had 21 points and four rebounds, was the Lakers’ top scorer. Mason Jones led the bench with 13 points while Scotty Pippen Jr. finished with 10 points, seven assists and three steals. Pippen Jr. draws attention to himself as the summer progresses due to his many scoring chances and the ability to control an attack. He already has a strong case for potential minutes with the major Lakers next season because he has a general feel for the game that can’t be taught.

Lakers head coach Darvin Ham was in attendance and shared his goals for next season with Steve Smith and Chris Miles at the NBA broadcast table. Coach Ham expressed his delight at having Russell Westbrook on the team and praised his tenacity and style of play. His comments tie in with recent rumors that the team is trying to deal with Brooklyn Nets Westbrook and Kyrie Irving. Westbrook recently attended a Lakers Summer League game and sat across from LeBron James the entire time.

During Summer League action, two fans got into the stands and one of them required medical attention after being beaten cold. Before a heated argument ensues with other spectators in the stands, the man in white (who previously wore a yellow shirt) stands in the crowd. The man in orange standing next to him was later seen throwing a barrage of punches at the guy in question. Summer League president Albert Hall joined fellow supporters in breaking up the argument after separating the two boys.
