Laurent Mekies praised Ferrari for the pace they’ve shown throughout the weekend but mostly pointed to the race pace they’ve had in the sprint race. The 100km race cleared up a lot of things for Sunday’s feature race. Laurent spoke about the starting energies and the maximum pace they could get out of the package in Austria.
Charles Leclerc starts the main race from P2, Carlos Sainz in P3, both Ferrari teammates fought for second place, which finally gave Max Verstappen a clear chance for the lead, which he gladly accepted and continued to drive in P1. But the positive that came out of the sprint race was the reaction time and pace the F1-75 was able to maintain over the 23 laps. They almost caught Max in the final laps when there was only a second left.
“Today’s sprint race confirmed that things are very close between us and our main rivals on this track as well. It was important to verify this in race conditions and I would say the 23 laps this afternoon confirmed it,” said Laurent.

Laurent Mekies wants to play for the Red Bulls on Sunday
Laurent spoke to colleagues at Maranello about detailing the Austrian package to get the most out of the F1-75 and challenge the rivals in their backyard.
“I think tomorrow’s race will be very competitive and anything can happen. It’s the details that count, so we will now analyze everything closely together with our colleagues in Maranello to see how we can get the most out of our package.” said Laurent.
Tire management at the beginning and end of the race would also play a crucial role in the 71-lap race. With Sergio Perez finishing 8th after a fantastic session, things are still 2v2 between the Ferrari and Red Bull with teamwork being the key factor tomorrow.
