Issa Rae and HER Lead the 53rd NAACP Image Award Nominations

Issa Rae and HER nodded at the 53rd NAACP Image Awards.

Issa RaeRegina King, and Jennifer Hudson were the frontrunners for the motion picture category at this year’s NAACP Image Awards.

The nominations were announced Tuesday, and topping the list with 12 nominations each is Issa Rae’s HBO series “Insecure” and Netflix’s Black Western.”The harder it is, the more they fall.

Regina King co-starred in “The Harder They Fall,” and was also awarded Entertainment of the Year. Jennifer Hudson was also nominated for Artist of the Year, and her film “Respect” has six nominations.

Singer-songwriter HER leads in 6 nominations. These include being nominated for best female artist, best album for “Back of My Mind,” best R&B album, song of the year for “Fight For You” and more.

Behind HER with four nominations, each is Chlöe, Drake, Silk Sonic and Jazmine Sullivan.

This year’s list features 83 categories for sound recording, motion pictures, television and streaming, documentaries, directing, podcasts, literature and writing.

The 53rd NAACP Image Awards will be hosted by Anthony Anderson on Saturday, February 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT live on BET.

The NAACP will recognize winners in the non-television categories from February 21-25, with those ceremonies to be streamed on Issa Rae and HER Lead the 53rd NAACP Image Award Nominations
