Islam Makhachev considers Charles Oliveira to be his toughest potential opponent.
UFC lightweight contender Islam Makhachev is looking forward to a bout with Charles Oliveira but admits this will be his toughest potential test by far.
First up is the first for Makhachev, who will face Bobby Green in the main event of UFC Vegas 49. He’s inherently up against Bobby Green. Beneil Dariush before he withdrew with an injury.
Makhachev has called for a title fight if he can overtake Green this weekend. He also predicted that Oliveira would be better Justin Gaethje at UFC 274.
If Makhachev is correct, he will earn a champ match to complete his race for the dominant title.
During his pre-fight press conference at UFC Vegas 49, he explained why Oliveira might consider him the best match of any other UFC fighter on the list.
“It will be a good match because we have almost the same style,” Makhachev said. “He has good grappling skills, good attack. I don’t think it will be difficult for me, but his grappling skills are at a high level. We’ll see who’s better at it in the end. “
Islam Makhachev is about to win the lightweight title
Makhachev has won nine in a row with three in a row by submission. He is the patron of former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and is looking to make his legacy in the octagon.
If Makhachev can pull off another dominant win at UFC Vegas 49, he could very well get his next title shot. He is continuing to pursue Oliveira and regain the throne for his homeland Dagestan.
