How Heart to Hearts works in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

In previous Xenoblade titles, the Heart to Hearts system placed several points of interest in the open world. These positions would be marked with a handshake symbol. As you approached these areas, you were told what characters needed to be in your party to see the Heart to Hearts event.

In the image above, the Heart to Hearts symbol was used extensively in Xenoblade Chronicles. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 takes this feature and has modified it significantly.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 still uses the same handshake symbol, but now it represents a new feature called Rest Spots. Rest Spots are places where your party can level up, craft gems, cook food, and discuss interesting topics. As you liberate colonies and speak to the citizens of each settlement, you can overhear various conversations based on history and the events affecting them.

Rest Spots allows you to select these topics via the Discuss option. Once you’ve done this, your group will have a friendly chat and discuss the issue. This can lead to more backstory or additional context on certain topics. Discussing things with the group will often start new side quests, allowing you to further investigate the issue.

With this new system, the standard Heart to Hearts system is gone, and these new features effectively take its place. With a large cast of six characters adventuring and fighting together throughout the game, this new system allows everyone in the party to play a role in the story together.
