“Five Nights at Freddy’s leaves the door open for William Afton’s return.”Matthew Lillard in Five Nights at Freddy's.

If the marketing campaign for Five nights at Freddy’s began to roll out, Matthew Lillard Was correctly identified as William Afton, the classic villain from the video game series. But in the film he is first introduced as Steve Raglan, a career advisor to Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson). While the protagonist of the story investigates the mystery surrounding the animatronics of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, Raglan reveals himself to be Afton, the man behind the disappearance of many children decades before the events of the film.

Afton couldn’t let Mike and his sister Abby (Piper Rubio) to stay alive after finding out what was actually going on in the abandoned pizzeria, This caused him to put on his yellow rabbit suit once again to kill more lives. And while Afton and Mike’s rivalry is already intense enough, things spiral out of control when Miks realizes he’s fighting the man who took his brother’s life decades ago. With the help of Freddy, Foxy, Chica and Bonnie, Afton is defeated, triggering a springlock fault in his suit that impales him.

In the video games that inspired the film, Afton is also trapped in his suit and remains alive despite the fatal injuries the suit inflicted on him. A similar fate could occur in the film series, where the animatronics sweep away a desperate William. As he is still twitching and gasping for air when he is last seen before the credits roll, It’s entirely possible that the villain known as Springtrap will return, just like he promised. William Afton seemed impossible to kill in the video games, and he might be just as tough in the film adaptations.

Mike’s entire character arc revolves around the fact that He is obsessed with finding out who took his brother’s lifeHe believes he can discover the killer’s identity by consciously exploring his own memories of the tragedy while he sleeps. The technique would eventually allow him to communicate with the spirits taking control of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza’s animatronics and understand why they want to take his sister. But strangely, Mike’s ability to talk to the dead never gives him the opportunity to talk to his brother. Since he was kidnapped and then killed by Afton, he could Garrett have control of an animatronic that hasn’t been seen yet?

According to the source material, the five children who can be considered the owners of the animatronics were not the only group of victims left behind by the serial killer. Freddy’s was a popular restaurant chain with several restaurants throughout the United States. During his lifetime, Afton took the lives of many children and left a trail of violence and anger wherever he went. If the films decide to follow the same path in the future, More Freddy locations could be revealed in a possible sequel. with Garrett’s ghost in one of them.

Since Mike’s only goal is to make peace with the tragedy that struck his family before Abby’s birth, it seems strange that he gets the opportunity to talk to other spirits, but not his actual brother. The police were never able to arrest William Afton due to lack of evidence and the fact that many years were said to have passed between the original murders and the conspiracy Five nights at Freddy’s, it leaves the door open for more abandoned restaurants that hold secrets of their own. Mike’s search for his brother can continue, and this time he won’t be alone on the journey.

Vanessa has to deal with family problems

The biggest plot twist in the film adaptation that deviates from what the games imply is the way police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) It turns out to be William Afton’s daughter. After the revelation, Vanessa helps Mike and Abby in the final showdown against the merciless villain, but their father stabs them without showing any remorse. At the end of the film, Vanessa is in the hospital being treated for the injuries she sustained during the final battle. But given the possibility that Afton is still alive in his yellow bunny costume, she might want to get involved in future attempts to take him down once and for all.

In addition to the fact that both Vanessa and William Afton are still alive, the credits of Five nights at Freddy’s continue to tease a continuation of the story, with a mysterious voice spelling out the words “Find Me” before the screen fades to black. In the video game Five nights at Freddy’s 2, mysterious 8-bit mini-games, deliver a similar message to the player, asking them to find a way to save the children trapped in the robots. However, since the world of the film adaptation turned out to be different than that of the game, it remains to be seen who is actually sending the message. Could it be Garrett? Could it be William? Or is it a completely different person?

With a serial killer regaining his strength and two broken families caught in the same conflict, the main characters of Five nights at Freddy’s could easily come back for another round, especially considering Abby wanted to visit her friends again even though they almost killed her. Blumhouse is no stranger to producing popular franchises like this Halloween Modern trilogy and upcoming sequels M3GAN And The black phone. According to this weekend’s box office results, The future looks bright Five nights at Freddy’s.

Five Nights at Freddy’s is currently in theaters and available to stream on Peacock.
