Hogwarts Legacy, the long-rumored action role-playing game set in the Harry Potter universe, has been officially unveiled. Developed by Portkey Games, the title has been announced as a current and next-gen game, but will not be released until the holiday season of 2022.
The game received a new gameplay showcase at State of Play on March 17th, giving us new details about the title. Since the game’s unveiling, Harry Potter and PlayStation fans have been looking for news on one specific aspect – multiplayer. Hogwarts Legacy seems perfectly suited to MMO style gameplay or even a games-as-a-service model. So will there be a multiplayer mode where players can play with their friends?
We have received official information from PlayStation Canada that the game will be single player only. NPCs can join your party to join the fight. “Hogwarts Legacy is a single-player open-world action role-playing game,” the company said in an email. “You can join NPC companions on your adventures, but the story revolves around your own legacy.”
At the 1:01 mark in the video above, the teaser trailer’s narrator says, “You’ll make lifelong friends here.” While this doesn’t apply to your real-life friends who join you online, it does to interactions between classmates and You seem important in your own Hogwarts history.
Later, footage shows two students brewing potions together in the same cauldron before soaring into the skies on the backs of their griffins. It seems like your friends will join you in important parts of your journey.
