Popular online indie sneak and stab simulator Between us is currently facing an ongoing Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack.. Accordingly Between us developer Inner SlothThe game has been offline for over two days due to the attack in both North America and Europe.
On Friday evening, March 24th Between us Players started reporting some server issues before eventually it became impossible for players to even connect and play online. Soon after, Innersloth confirmed that the servers were indeed down and explained that this was all due to a DDoS attack.
“We have a sabotage going on lol,” the official account tweeted before explaining the DDoS attack and apologizing to players for the downtime. It also explained that it could “take a bit” for things to get fixed.
Now, over 48 hours later, the servers are still down and most players are unable to connect at all.
The last update from Innersloth came yesterday afternoon, with the developers explaining that the servers were still unstable and that the servers may be turning on and off as the team continues to fight the DDoS attack. So you might be able to log in, but chances are you’ll be booted shortly after. Innersloth said it will let players know when the servers are back to normal and stabilizing.
While some players are naturally frustrated by the situation, Innersloth has taken advantage of it Between us Twitter account to have fun during DDoS attack. Of course, just because someone tweets jokes doesn’t mean the rest of the team isn’t doing anything, but this is the internet and some players just can’t imagine different people in studios having different jobs.
Thankfully, most of the people responding to Innersloth’s DDoS updates are playing along with the developers during an incredibly annoying and shitty time.
DDoS attacks continue to be a problem, even for large video game companies and networks. Famous in December 2014, both the PSN and Xbox Live networks were brought down by a massive DDoS attack. Unfortunately, These types of attacks are difficult to predict and stop. And as more and more video games depend on the Internet, DDoS attacks and online hacking are becoming a bigger and more annoying problem for gamers and developers.
