Intermediate nursing students achieve 100% license pass rate – The Morning Sun

Recent events, from the COVID-19 pandemic to flooding throughout the central Michigan area, have challenged Mid Michigan College students more than ever.

For students actively enrolled in the School’s rigorous Nursing Program, special dedication is required to persevere through rapidly changing public health requirements.

Barbara Wieszciecinski, Dean of Health Sciences and Director of Nursing at Mt. Pleasant at Mid, shared: “Although our students have been and continue to face unprecedented situations, they continue to work hard and succeed beyond expectations.

After completing their educational requirements, Mid’s nursing students must successfully pass the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX) to receive their licensure.

Nationally, the NCLEX pass rate for students with an associate’s degree has plummeted 4.72% since 2019, from 85.17% to 80.45%. The drop was largely attributed to challenges related to COVID-19.

Wieszciecinski notes, “A 100% NCLEX pass rate for students at both campuses is an annual goal for Mid’s nursing faculty,” notes Wieszciecinski. “We strive to prepare our students for success.”

In 2020, nursing students at Mt. Mid’s Pleasant achieved their first 100% NCLEX pass rate for their cohort, and just a year later in 2021, Harrison’s nursing students also achieved their group’s first 100% NCLEX pass rate. Each group continued to see a high pass rate once future groups completed the test.

“Each and every instructor contributes to the success of our students,” says Wieszciecinski. “From general education through all of their nursing courses, we give them a solid foundation and make them ready to serve our community in the real world.”

The steady increase in NCLEX pass rates for Intermediate students is just one part of a larger effort that began in 2019. Instructors and program leaders have completely reimagined the curriculum. nursing and is accredited by the National League for Nurses Commission, an autonomous accreditation body that promotes excellence and integrity in nursing education globally through a value-driven accreditation process.

“During the accreditation process, we sent a consultant to help us ensure that Mid’s nursing curriculum prepares our students for success,” explains Wieszciecinski. Wieszciecinski explains. “Many instructors changed their teaching methods, we implemented additional simulations in a lab environment and reassigned courses to instructors based on their experience and skill strengths. ”

Throughout all the challenges faced, Mid students and faculty continue to demonstrate excellence and the College continues to offer exceptional opportunities for students who want to become nurses in this rapidly changing world.
