Seth Rollin has been showing the Visionary gimmick since 2021 and has received mixed reviews for it, with former writer Vince Russo calling it silly, while Mick Foley calling it one of his favorites of recent years. Seth Rollins feuded with Cesaro in 2021 and was defeated by him at WrestleMania 37. Rollins then managed to defeat Cesaro at WrestleMania Backlash and then ended his feud with him when he defeated him again in the MITB qualifier match. In August 2015, Seth Rollins was then World Heavyweight Champion and challenged the then United States Champion John Cena in a winner takes all match at SummerSlam. Cena accepted the challenge on an episode of Tough Enough.

At the event, John Cena delivered an attitude adjustment to Seth Rollins and went for the pinfall, but the latter kicked out. When Seth attempted a pedigree, Cena countered and went for the figure four leglock, but Seth countered and pinned John, who managed to reach the ropes. John then attempted another take adjustment but was unsuccessful in nailing The Visionary.

Towards the end of the match, SummerSlam host John Stewart entered the ring with the steel chair and it appeared like he was there to help Cena, but instead he hit John Cena with it. Seth Rollins took advantage of this and successfully pinned Cena to become the first man in WWE history to hold the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and the United States Championship simultaneously.
