Former NBA player Charlie Villanueva in his recent Instagram post supported Will Smith for taking a stand against Chris Rock, who poked fun at his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, on national television during the Oscars. Villanueva has a history of dealing with autoimmune diseases, the condition in which the patient loses all of their body hair that Smith’s wife also suffers from.
During the show, comedian anchored Chris Rock for the Best Documentary Award, comparing Will Smith’s wife’s hair loss to “GI Jane,” a movie character. At first, Will Smith didn’t respond, but when he saw his wife getting uncomfortable, he couldn’t control himself and walked up to the stage and slapped Rock in the face.
Also, Villanueva was “proud” of Will Smith’s decision to stand up for his wife, while expressing that he understands Jada’s struggle, he condemned Smith’s violent action on live television.

“She said she struggled with it [Alopecia], and Chris Rock thought it was cool to make a joke. We’re not at Jada’s every day to learn the magnitude of the fight, but Will is. As I do not condone violence, I am proud that Will Smith stood up for his wife.”

Villanueva is well acquainted with all the ridicule Jada Smith has faced over losing her hair due to alopecia. The former Mavericks player was even once mocked by Kevin Garnett who called him a cancer patient during the game.
Later, Villanueva also appeared in TMZ Sports’ YouTube video where he spoke about his fight. When the reporter asked him would he tell Jada about his past experiences?

villanueva said “Absolutely I feel like alopecia, at least for me it’s a blessing, I didn’t understand why it happened to me back when I was a kid but now I have a purpose and it’s something I’ve been doing since I was me.” was. I got a platform by advocating for alopecia.”
