Daria Kasatkina is a Russian professional tennis player. She is currently the best singles player in Russia. Towards the end of the 2018 season, she entered the top ten of the WTA rankings for the first time. She has won a doubles championship and four singles titles on the WTA Tour. At the age of six, at the urging of her older brother, Kasatkina took up tennis.

The current number 12 in the world came out as gay in an interview with a Russian blogger Vitya Kravchenko. None of this mattered to Kasatkina, who was happy to draw attention to the issue, revealing her relationship with a woman in a recent interview. She is delighted with the overwhelmingly positive response she has received to her coming out at home and abroad:

“I don’t know how the social media filter works, but I’ve just heard very good things. Not only from the West, but also from my country. I’m very glad about that. As I have seen, it has not only been good for me, but also helped other people. This is great and I feel great. I’m happy about it and myself and that’s the most important thing.”

She said goodbye: “Yes, I feel freer and happier. I think I made the right move. With the situation in the world, all these things that are difficult, if not now, when? Let’s put everything in the same pool.”
