Bill Russell was one of the most underrated greats of all time. The legend helps elevate the Boston Celtics’ name as one of the greatest organizations in league history. After retiring, he worked as an NBA coach and then continued to mentor several young guns entering the league. Unfortunately, his time on earth ended about a day ago. The Hall of Famer died of natural causes at the age of 88, leaving the NBA world in disbelief.

The Celtics were a dominant team in the 2000s. As one of the greatest power forwards of all time, Kevin Garnett played a very central role in the team. Before winning his first and only title, he had the honor of interviewing Bill Russell. During the talks, the two almost broke down in tears.
In the video released by ESPN, Russell said of Garnett: “I think you will win at least 2 or 3 championships. If you don’t, but I see you playing like you should play, I’ll share one of my rings. This is a real friendship thing I’m talking about. If you play the way you play and you put up with it, they will come. You have no idea how proud I am of you.”

Former Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers honors Bill Russell
