Shaquille O’Neal also known as “Shaq” and “DJ Diesel”, is a retired National Basketball Association player and a legendary Hall of Famer for being the most dominant force to have ever graced the league. In his retirement, Shaq has blossomed into a businessman, musician, and NBA analyst as he still loves to be near and enjoy the game. Recently, like every other day, he made headlines again when a shot of him about the Lakers firing their head coach, Frank Vogel, went viral on the internet. He is a Lakers legend himself, having won multiple championships with the Los Angeles Lakers alongside Kobe Bryant and established himself as one of the greatest centers to ever play the game. But the Lakers have been a huge disappointment to everyone around them this season, having had a season down when they were set to win the championship.
The Los Angeles Lakers are eliminated from the playoffs and the season is ending for them as it is an official closure forced by the Phoenix Suns who knocked them out of the picture for the play-in tournament. LeBron James is the only player from the roster who’s been doing his job trying to win as many games as possible, but he won’t be a part of the postseason due to the sleeping supporting cast. The team showed how consistently inconsistent they are when it comes to winning games and improving their tally this season. It was a huge failure on an individual level from the players on the team, handpicked by the front office, the general manager, owner Jeanie Buss and of course LeGM (LeBron James). But Frank Vogel paid the price and received a disrespectful punishment when he was officially fired by the team on Monday after they described it as a deal.
The news trends across the internet as many believe head coach Frank Vogel has just been made the scapegoat for the veteran squad’s mistakes. Even Shaquille O’Neal shares the same view, as in the most recent segment of his podcast, dubbed “The Big Podcast with Shaq,” he critiqued the situation, criticized the team, and also responded about what he would have done if he had been Frank Vogel would have been and stuck in the same situation.

Shaquille O’Neal on the firing of Lakers head coach Frank Vogel
Shaquille O’Neal discusses the situation, adding what he would have done in it, citing: “If I were Frank, as soon as they ask me, ‘No, you haven’t told me anything, but you have to tell me because I quit.’ … I would have stopped. I would have said, ‘I’m quitting, and all the other coaches who are thinking about taking this job, don’t waste your time.’ I would have done that. “You don’t want to respect me and tell the media I’m going to be fired? Nah, I’m not getting fired, I’m quitting.’”
Shaq was himself the whole time and we can believe he’s pulling through. Since he’s not one who wouldn’t object to disrespect towards him for things he didn’t actually do. However, Frank Vogel also had some flaws such as not having a proper lineup to start games and win them. But that comes back on the roster and the players that the front office has got it. Under his coaching during bubble season, the Lakers clinched a championship and now watched them in such a disrespectful manner that he got the message from a tweet and not from the team. Even though it was leaked on the air for weeks, it’s just sad for everyone in the franchise.
