Ons Jabeurthe newly crowned ATP 1000 Master Champion in Mutua Madrid Openhas reached another quarter-final in Rome after sailing past Kazakhstan Yulia Putintseva. She defeated Putintseva 6-3, 6-2 as she built up a small streak herself. Jabeur is currently on a nine-game winning streak. Jabeur emerged from Madrid more fearless and refined and she is another pick after that Iga Swiatek to win at Roland Garros.

Maria Sakkari, on the other hand hadn’t had a couple of great tournaments. She was eliminated in the round of 16 Stuttgart openand at the Mutua Madrid Open she was upset Daria Kasatkina in the round of 32. Sakkari has played well in Rome as she prepares for the French Open 2022. Sakkari faced Coco Gauff, which she ousted in the previous edition of the Italian Open, and this time Sakkari took her revenge by sending the talented youngster home. Both players will face each other in a tough fight in the Quarterfinals. Jabeur and Sakkari both have one of their last two matches each, with Sakkari winning the last duel in Ostrava in 2020.

Ons Jabeur is delighted with her performance in the quarter-finals in Rome. According to the WTA, she said about Putintseva: “Honestly, I feel good that it didn’t last more than two or three hours because I know she can have long fights.” “Pretty glad I kept it simple.”

About Sakkari she said:

“A great player, a great friend on tour. … It’s going to be a tough match. I know she plays really well: great serve, great forehand and really great backhand.

“Our last game was very close, I had my chances. I think I’ll just try.”

It would be a real fight with both players looking to do well here to gain more confidence going into the French Open. While Jabeur would still be confident with their win in Madrid, Sakkari would like to earn some of it by beating Jabeur in the quarterfinals.
