“If Rafa wins the French Open, Novak will…” Patrick Mouratoglou makes a bold claim about GOAT racing » FirstSportz

Federer vs Nadal vs Djokovic

The GOAT race between Roger Federer, Rafael Nadaland Novak Djokovic is probably the most consistently said thing in all sports, not just tennis. The three men popularized and commercialized the sport like no other, redefining consistency and dominance. They’ve won 61 of the last 74 majors and, despite being in their late 30s, are still favorites to win major titles.

Recently, legendary trainer Patrick Mouratoglou, who coaches Serena Williams, gave his verdict on the GOAT debate. He spoke at length about the current situation of the trio. About Federer he said that the Swiss has only played 3 tournaments in the last 2 years and his last major title came 5 years ago in 2017. According to Mouratoglou, Federer will most likely be stuck at 20 Majors.

“Roger’s last Grand Slam title was back in 2017. He has only played 3 tournaments in the last 2 years and has already announced that he will not play Wimbledon this year. He will most likely get stuck at 20 Grand Slam titles.

The coach went on to say that just a year ago Djokovic was the clear favorite in the GOAT race as he has been winning an average of 2 Majors a year in recent years. Given the Serb’s fitness, Mouratoglou said he could easily play a few more years and win 25-30 Grand Slam titles.

“Up until this last Australian Open, Novak was by far in pole position. He is the youngest of the three, having won an average of two Grand Slam titles a year over the past four seasons. He can easily play another three or four years because he is in excellent physical condition. That could take him to 25 or 30 Grand Slam titles.”

Speaking about Nadal, Mouratoglou said he has been in a comfortable position since the Australian Open and tops the all-time Grand Slam list. Then he again stated that if Nadal wins the French Open he will have a 2 Grand Slam advantage over Djokovic and Federer which will put the Serb in big trouble at Wimbledon as everyone would expect him to he wins.

But since the last Australian Open, Rafa is back in a comfortable position. He leads the race for the most Grand Slam titles at 21, one more than Novak and Roger. The next Grand Slam will be Roland Garros and Rafa has won 7 of the last 10 French Opens. It’s still unclear if Novak will play in Paris and if Rafa wins French, Novak will be under a lot of pressure at Wimbledon as he will feel he has to win

As of now, all three GOATs are out of service. Federer is in recovery and is expected to make a comeback in August. Djokovic is barred from most tournaments due to his vaccination status, while Nadal is sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a broken rib.
