Ian Hasselwander Strangled, Stabbed Morgan Bates: Police

Grim details are emerging in a criminal case against a young Upstate New York man accused of murdering a young woman.

Ian J. Hasselwander22, in Petersburg, NY, is charge with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, first-degree strangulation, and concealment of a body, Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department say friday night. Funeral services for Bates were held on Saturday.

The school officials remembered her fondly.

“Morgan has always had a twinkle in his eye and is known to be alert and has a big heart,” speak Principal of Cambridge High School, NY Caroline Goss in an online post. “As an educator, every student we work with leaves a deep impression on us. I had the honor of having Morgan as a student and as her principal. I am proud to see her walk across the stage upon graduation and look forward to seeing her pursue her dream of working with horses. “I want to say thank you for all the love and support my family and my daughter have had,” he said.
