Molly McCann couldn’t have picked a more perfect time for her first stop win in the UFC. McCann (12-4 MMA, 5-3 UFC) had put in an excellent performance in her women’s flyweight bout Luna Carolina (8-3 MMA, 3-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 204 in London in their home country of England on Saturday. On the way to decisive victory McCann threw something that left no doubt. McCann drilled Carolina with a spinning back elbow connected flush and pinned Carolina get out immediately. After four UFC decision wins, including three in a row in 2019, ahead of a tackle sled.
Molly McCanns The first finish in the promotion will forever live on her highlight reel — and rank among the most vicious UFC finishes for women in history. It’s also an early contender for Knockout of the Year. Molly McCann said much of the credit for what could be her coming-out party in the division comes from fighting in Britain for the first time in three years. “I’m supposed to be here” She said. “It’s the performances I’m supposed to have. Me and Paddy Pimblett will change the game. We’re the second attempt at the British invasion after we had Brad Pickett, after we had Michael Bisping. It’s my time.”
“It’s my time,” says Molly McCann, ready for the best of the rest
Molly McCann put a shot clock at her press conference because once teammate Paddy Pimblett ready to take his walk, she was determined to leave to be at the cage side. McCann and pimlett, both proud Liverpoolers and residents, have said they plan to be the next generation of British superstars in sport. Conveniently, her gym is Next Generation MMA in Liverpool.
McCann said she will not name a next opponent but will single out the women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko as the one fighter in the division above the rest of them at the moment. As for the rest McCann thinks the difference in skills between everyone chasing the champion is small – but when she gets into the cage, she plans to widen the gap.
“I don’t mind (calling anyone)”, McCann called. “I respect each of us in this division. This is a stacked division and every single one that trains wants to win the title. And all of us, apart from Shevchenko, it’s a 1 percent difference between all of us. That’s how much I respect you girls (flyweight). I respect you all until we get in there. Then it’s my house. It’s my house.”
