Brian Ortega was very close to earning another title shot, but Yair Rodriguez defeated him at UFC Long Island. The fight ended primarily because T-City injured his shoulder, making it an uneventful end to what was quite an amazing fight night. Brian believes things were going well until his injury.
Brian Ortega and Yair Rodriguez faced off in an all-Mexican UFC headline show at UFC Long Island at UBS Elmont in New York. The fight aired on ABC and was one of the biggest cards of the year. Brian went into this fight hoping to claim a win and secure a title shot while his Mexican opponent came in with similar intentions.
The fight ended on a rather disappointing note as Ortega injured his arm, hampering his defense and Rodriguez managed to earn a win via TKO. The fight developed into an all-out war by the 4th minute of the first round. After his devastating loss, Ortega speaks to Megan Olivi for ESPN MMA and shares his initial reactions to the injury at UFC Long Island.

Brian Ortega thinks everything went according to plan
“Everything went according to my wishes” Ortega said to Megan Olivi. “I literally won every minute of the fight and stuck to the game plan because I get emotional. For a second we started hitting, we started throwing and I said, ‘Okay, let’s start throwing,’ and I said, ‘No, stick to the game plan.'”
Brian believes the fight went exactly the way he wanted and he would use the fight that took place on the canvas to his advantage. Unfortunately, while landing on the ground, Ortega broke his arm. “The world saw that I was about to show what I do best, which is to fight and take control. And the second we hit the ground, my frigging arm just came out.” said T City.
This was a historic night for the promotion and it’s really a shame that the main event of the fight had to end like this. T-City is undergoing surgery and wishes the best of recovery.
