The Indian Premier League is incomplete with a mention of one of the most explosive batsmen and Caribbean superstar Chris Gayle. He used to make ‘Gayle Storm’ smash bowlers and win matches single-handedly. Fans must have their TVs on to see him hit sixes without moving an inch from the crease.
He previously represented three franchises – Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings X| Punjab. Undoubtedly his best streak was alongside RCB where the superb trio of Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers had created a strong wall for the opposition.

Chris Gayle has opted out of IPL 2022
But unfortunately, in the 15th edition of IPL, fans missed the “Universe Boss” because he decided to retire from the Mega Auction before this tournament. In an interview, the West Indian cited a lack of respect as the reason for this decision.
“For the past few years, the way the IPL has been going has made me feel like I’m not being treated properly,” Gayle was quoted as saying by The Mirror.
“So I was like, ‘Okay, you (Gayle) didn’t get the respect you deserve after doing so much for the sport and IPL.’ So I said ‘okay, that’s it, I won’t bother attending the call-up’, so I left it as it is. There will always be life after cricket so I’m just trying to adjust to normality.”
The West Indian still holds the record for the highest single point tally in IPL history, an unbeaten 175, which he hit against the Pune Warriors in 2013 while representing RCB. He has 4,965 runs in 142 games with a batting average of 148.96. He still has a wealth of records to his name.
The 42-year-old also said later in the interview that he would return to IPL in 2023.
“I’ll be back next year, they need me!” He chuckled. “I have represented three teams in the IPL, Kolkata, RCB and Punjab. Between RCB and Punjab, I would love to win a title with one of those teams,” he confirmed.
