‘I was speaking from a point of selfish ignorance’ – as John Cena revealed his judgment on Dwayne Johnson’s Hollywood transition was wrong

John Cena and Dwayne Johnson are two of the biggest mainstream magnets in the world today, and rightly so. The two men were true trailblazers during their WWE heyday, and now they’re also thriving in their Hollywood commitments. After earning the right to get a set “Larger Than Life” Personalities, the two men share the utmost respect for one another, both inside and outside the square circle. John Cena himself called Dwayne one of his greatest opponents of all time and it felt like an honor to share the ring with him.

A few years ago, John Cena questioned The Brahma Bull’s commitment to professional wrestling when he called him out for leaving WWE midway to excel in his Hollywood career. Well, that statement was enough to spark controversy between the two parties, but it didn’t do much, as John soon realized that saying he’d pioneered a path that Cena hadn’t wasn’t a lack of commitment to WWE can understand that. John also accepted that he coined all of those remarks as part of his selfish ignorance.

“I told Dwayne Johnson I was wrong when I berated him for not loving WWE. I was ignorant. He loves WWE, but he moves from one project to the next. He blazed a trail and I didn’t get it but I totally get it now,” John shared, adding, “I was wrong. It led to good business at WWE [at WrestleMania 28 and 29]but I spoke out of selfish ignorance.”

In what can be described as one of the greatest battles in the history of the entire wrestling industry, John Cena and Rock blessed the ring on two separate occasions, but in back-to-back years at Wrestlemania 28 and 29. At The Showcase of the Immortals in the year 2012’s Cena vs. Rock was set up as a once in a lifetime match and when they stepped into that ring it really felt like that.

However, in anger at taunting The Great One, John Cena paid the price and lost the dream fight to The Rock Bottom. The very next year, both men fought for the WWE Championship for another big fight feeling, but the outcome was different this time as Cena took the big win in New Jersey in 2013.
