‘I was a spoon and they used me as a fork’: Patrick Beverley blasts Lakers’ use of him with tongue-in-cheek comment

Chicago Bulls guard Patrick Beverley finally got revenge on his former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, last night when the Bulls won the game with a 118-108 score at the Crypto.com Arena.

Patrick couldn’t even play a full season for the Lakers before joining the Bulls in February, despite being selected by the Lakers in the second round of the 2009 NBA draft. He had his first chance to wear the gold and purple jersey in October last year after staggering through seven different teams for 13 years.

Of course, any player would hold a grudge in his shoes, but he would only increase after being treated enormously unfairly by the organization.

What did Patrick Beverly say?

Ahead of last night’s game, the 34-year-old expressed his disappointment with the Lakers’ management, saying: “Yes. If I’m a spoon, Billy uses me as a spoon. The Lakers, you know, used me as a fork.”

It was pretty clear that Bulls head coach Billy Donovan was able to get the best out of the EuroCup MVP and he picked Chicago as his perfect spot. As he says this, the 6.2-foot guard also stabs the Lakers for improperly deploying him.

Beverley averaged 6.4 points with 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 45 appearances for the Lakers. Though not a particularly bright athlete, he felt neglected and unwanted during his tenure in Los Angeles.

Last night, he had 10 points with four rebounds and five assists in just 23 minutes of play and made the Crypto.com Arena laugh.

Before last night we saw a significant improvement in the performance of the NBA Hustle Award winner. In his 15 appearances to date, he has averaged 6.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.

Ultimately, however, he proved his point on the court and has another chance to rub salt in the Lakers’ wounds at the United Center on Wednesday. Can Patrick Beverley give another example of how he was mistreated? Leave your predictions in the comments section.
