World number 14 TaylorFritz was defeated in five sets by the 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Fritz had defeated the 22-time Grand Slam champion en route to winning the Indian Wells earlier this year and he was confident going into his Wimbledon semi-final match against Rafael Nadal.

Fritz was on an 8-game win streak and had a strong week at SW19, having won Eastbourne International a week earlier. Before Nadal, he hadn’t lost a set during the tournament. The Spaniard struggled with an abdominal problem throughout the match, but despite Fritz’s valiant efforts, Nadal still managed to win.

Taylor Fritz recently admitted he didn’t deserve the win and gave instructions on how to defeat the monstrous Rafael Nadal during an Instagram discussion for the upcoming Citi Open in Washington. Taylor Fritz had previously lost to the Spaniard in the Wimbledon quarter-finals, however the Spaniard had been reduced and even forfeited for the semi-finals just hours earlier.

“It was a huge game and I wanted it. I saw at the beginning of the tournament that it could be a quarter-final and I said I want this quarter-final and I got it and I played well. I had my chances, it could have gone either way. I’m scared of losing obviously.” said the American.

The 24-year-old said goodbye: “After the game ended, I sat there and wanted to cry. I never felt that after a defeat. I still believe he can be beaten; only you must descend into hell to get there.”
