Israel Adesanya aims for a submission win

Israel Adesanya is one of the most decorated mixed martial fighters in the world, but there are still a few things on the middleweight champion’s wish list to tick off in his upcoming bouts.

Israel Adesanya, the UFC middleweight champion, already has his name engraved on the octagon as one of the greatest middleweight contenders. With an MMA record of 22-1 and an extensive kickboxing career, he will go down in history as one of the greatest mixed martial arts fighters. The fighter has only been in the UFC for four years and is already on his way to his sixth title defense.

Adesanya takes on Jared Cannonier this weekend in one of the biggest pay-per-view cards of 2022. Ahead of his UFC 276 PPV event, Adesanya sits down for an exclusive interview on his own YouTube channel and talks about his upcoming career plans. The fighter is one of the best strikers of all time, but a submission win is what Adesanya craves the most. The fighter reveals he also practices submission moves in the gym but never got to a point where he could pull it off in a real fight.

“Submission Received” said Adesanya when the interviewer asked him about his greatest achievement that he has yet to unlock. Adesanya on his decorated resume of 22-1 has 15 wins over finishes. All of them were either TKO or KO wins. Adesanya has yet to submit an opponent in the octagon in his mixed martial arts career.

“F**k yes! I want to choke out some n**ga… I want to get some submissions before I retire. I’m not trying, but I just want to take the opportunity. But these guys fall down every time I touch them. So I just make sure I line it up well.” said Adesanya in the exclusive interview. “I’m on my way, I’m catching it at the gym. I know what I can do.”

Adesanya has never really opted for the ground game in his bouts, as he has managed to comfortably pass his opponents in the past. The only loss Adesanya faced in the octagon was against Jan Blachowicz in a light heavyweight title fight that was dominated by the 205 champion Izzy on the floor, earning a unanimous decision win.
