Ryan Blaney was in support NASCAR‘s decision to strike Brad Keselowski and his team RFK race at a hefty price tag, as RFK Racing’s #6 Ford Mustang had an illegal modification that was discovered after a teardown inspection of the vehicle at NASCAR’s R&D center.
Brad Keselowski and his team were each stripped of 100 driver points and 100 owner points after thoroughly inspecting the vehicle. Also Brad’s team boss, Matt McCall was fined a whopping $100,000, and if Keselowski qualifies, an additional 10 points will be docked.
Of course, this RFK Racing decision didn’t sit well with others and Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney was one of them. Ryan Blaney felt it was absolutely necessary to let everyone know that rules exist for a reason and nobody can get away with them.
“It’s a pretty harsh punishment. Hopefully we stay away from that,” Ryan Blaney said of the penalties being imposed on RFK Racing by NASCAR
Ryan Blaney only had one thing to say when asked about the incident during the post-race interview, he bluntly said that the team deserved what they got. He went on to say that he and his crew chief, Jonathan Hassler had discussed what RFK Racing was doing and agreed with the fact that it was a hefty penalty and that NASCAR made it clear that they will not tolerate such ignorance of the rules and regulations.
“Yes, that was a heavy penalty. So far In my position, we talk about what we think they’ve done and what we think they’ve done. Me and Jonathan have spoken about it and we kind of understand that the penalties are pretty severe. NASCAR made that clear to us during the off-season.” said Ryan Blaney.
He added that this is the way to go since NASCAR is an example of RFK Racing, and he also said that unless you hit them, nobody will learn anything. He concluded by saying that he hates that it happened to Brad Keselowski and RFK Racing, concluding that it is quite a severe penalty and hopes he and his team stay away from such retributions.
“Honestly, I think they have to be like that. If you do something weird and wrong, how is anyone supposed to learn it unless you punch them? There’s nothing against these guys at all. I think that’s how it should be done. I hate it for Brad Keselowski and all of them. It’s a pretty harsh punishment. Hopefully we stay away from it.” concluded Ryan Blaney.
Now we know that NASCAR is pretty strict when it comes to its rules and regulations, and anything illegal is tolerated.
