“Kobe !” we all shout with delight as we even shoot a paper ball into the trash can from a great distance, including Splash Brother Klay Thompson. Kobe Bryant was one of the most influential and hard-working basketball players in the history of the game, and not a day goes by that we tearfully recall his greatness, both on and off the court. His perennial drive and dedication to the game remain unparalleled, what we now call the “mamba mentality” is something Kobe embodied and that mentality lives on today as his legacy, something Klay Thompson brought through his intense rehab driven after an injury.

On Wednesday, Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson won the ESPY Award for Best Comeback Athlete after fighting back from two serious injuries to win his fourth NBA title. During his acceptance speech, Thompson not only thanked the family of the late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, but also revealed that the Black Mamba gave him the inspiration he needed during his rehab.

There has been much speculation as to where Klay Thompson and Golden State will end this NBA season after enduring their worst years in recent history. People forget that Warriors is their name, it’s a part of who they are, winning is in their DNA. Poole found his groove, Klay made a comeback after 2.5 years and Curry, well, he fried all his opponents as boss. After going through so much, Golden State have reestablished their position among the elite, with Stephen Curry as their “Achilles,” and Klay loves it.

The horrific end of the 2019 NBA Finals, which saw Klay suffer a cruciate ligament rupture, coupled with two of their worst seasons in recent history, some people assumed the dynasty had died, well it seems like it won’t be any time soon be. Having had an insane comeback season and receiving his award for Best Comeback Athlete of the Year, he revealed how his childhood ideal and the mentality of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant made him stronger than ever.

Bryant is considered one of the greatest LA Lakers in franchise history. He brought his mamba mentality with him every time he stepped onto the pitch and that made him special. Bryant has played 20 seasons and achieved it all because of his undying passion and love for the game. When Kobe Bryant was drafted in 1996, wanting to make a name for himself, he followed MJ and ended up doing something no one had done before. Bryant befriended Jordan and became his mentee. Kobe studied MJ’s game and absorbed every aspect of it. His famous “mamba mentality” is inspired by Jordan himself, just one of his many great stories.

“You don’t want to see us next year,” were Stephen Curry’s words on May 21St, 2021 after a disappointing loss to the Grizzlies in the Play-In tournament. About 11 months later, the Warriors have risen and claimed what is theirs, their opponents have bowed and the haters are nowhere to be seen as the Golden State Warriors win their 4th NBA titles in 8 seasons. Kobe once wrote and wrote Klay’s book “Rings, Rings, Rings, Rings”. Well, Klay has now got his fourth ring, and with the Splash Bros back to banging threes, now who’s going to stop them!
