“Hopefully waiting for good news from the USA”: Novak Djokovic
After all the difficulties of the season, winning Wimbledon was a big boost for Djokovic. On the Australian episode, he missed almost two months of action and stopped it when he was probably at one of his most dominant forms. A tough draw in the French Open 2022 didn’t help either and with a big chance of not being allowed to play it US Open 2022Wimbledon was very important for Novak and the Serb was certainly happy with the performances he has shown over the two weeks.
“I am overjoyed with joy and happiness. In general, I didn’t feel well in the first few months of the year. Mentally and emotionally. I realized that I have to be patient. Wimbledon trophies came for me at some pivotal moments in my life and career, like in 2018 after my elbow surgery. I felt support and love from the crowd today, I am grateful for that. The Australian Open is probably where I feel most comfortable, but Wimbledon is fast approaching.
“It’s so difficult to read his serve, both first and second. He puts on extra pressure. It was frustrating at times just watching balls fly past me. But I was solid from the back of the court. The serve was there at times, the 2nd serve could have been better. It was a huge momentum shift (break in the 3rd). I felt like he wasn’t moving as well in the fourth as he had been up until then. In the tie-break I was able to read his serve and get him to play an extra shot. I knew that serenity was one of the key elements.
“I want to keep my body healthy and stay motivated to compete with the youngsters. I’m on vacation for the next few weeks. And then hopefully I’ll wait for good news from the USA. i would like to play If that doesn’t happen, I’ll have to rethink my schedule.” Djokovic said during the champion’s press conference at Wimbledon.
