The mighty Los Angeles Lakers finished the 2022 season with a 33-49 record, costing them a playoff berth overall. Many excuses were pushed aside for Russell Westbrook’s poor performance and failure. Things have been so bad that it’s safe to urge that deciding what to do with Westbrook is by far the biggest question going forward for the Lakers. They’re certainly trying to improve on last season’s underperformance. The front office sacrificed depth for Starpower when trading for the former MVP, and now that it wasn’t paying the dividends they were hoping for, they might have had to make a move.

Russ fought alongside co-stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis. AD and James were injured most of the time, but Russ played 78 games for the team and had 31 wins. Lakers have limited assets for each trade and due to Westbrook’s massive contract teams, they have been reluctant to trade for him even when used as a trade chip. But Skip Bayless has a ruthless prediction for the “untradable” Russell Westbrook.

During a recent episode of “Undisputed,” Skip Bayless shared his views as he believes the best scenario is to remove Russell Westbrook from the team as much as possible. bayless said, “I told you from day one, this is the ultimate scenario, this is the worst case. In a way, I still believe with all my heart and soul that just getting him out of sight and out of mind might be the best case for LeBron and the Lakers.

Former MVP and assist leader Russell Westbrook is without a doubt an offensive juggernaut for his teams. He led the league by two goals and boasts an impressive 194 triple-double stats. But it meant the least for the Lakers, as Westbrook failed to replicate any of those stats in a season played with the franchise. He averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists – but proved ineffective on the floor as those numbers didn’t win games for his team.

The 70-year-old analyst slammed Westbrook for his disastrous outing with the Lakers said “It wasn’t like Westbrook was in a slump from January to February, he was slumping all year. ER was the worst 3-pointer in basketball, he was the 4th worst free throw taker, led the league in turnovers. It’s a terrible combination and hard to overcome.

Skip even predicted Lakers owners could be willing to drop $47 million and send Westbrook packing. This has to be the absolute last resort for the Lakers. If the franchise decided to send Russell Westbrook home, it wouldn’t be the first time a team had done so with a high-paying player, but the Rockets had done the same with the healthy John Wall.

In a very practical scenario, the Lakers should set picks to trade Russell Westbrook before deciding to sit him out for the entire season. It’s safe to assume that the Lakers don’t want to throw away another year of LeBron’s career. Even if he’s questionable, LA will need players like Anthony Davis and LeBron James to fight for the title. Even if Westbrook isn’t traded, having him on the ground against the weaker side might help them a bit more than sitting him out for a season.

While the Lakers have made some free-hand moves, their supporting cast around LeBron and AD is lackluster. They lack the talent behind their stars to rival some of the other top teams in the Western Conference. Darvin Ham and The Lakers would be happy to see at least 50% from OKC Westbrook which will increase their chances in the league.
