At the top of the year, model and influencer Ari Fletcher was robbed of her business with rihannaLingerie brand Savage X Fenty. The 27-year-old millionaire, who earns thousands from the Instagram post, acted as a brand ambassador for the singer’s company. But her questionable comments about domestic violence led to the end of her sponsorship deal.
On the recent episode of the BET+ show The Impact ATL, Fletcher confirmed that she missed six figures from the Savage X Fenty deal. The new series follows her and other local celebrities such as the famous hairdresser Arrogant Taerapper Lakeya, Des Dior and co-influencers Jayda Cheaveswho has a son with him Little baby.
In the viral clip, Fletcher and her friends began speculating as to why her Instagram was shut down. Fans noticed that her page was missing for days earlier this year. She claims it was because she ruthlessly berated fans under her Instagram story. She also suggested it might have come from an interview she had conducted with mona love on the Don’t Call Me White Girl Podcast.
“I did an interview with my friend Mona. I said something about a– choking me or picking up a gun or something. But it was like we were joking,” she said during her confessional. “People have spoken out about domestic violence and said, ‘Oh, why are you saying that?’ What I was doing was moving on live like I wasn’t giving af—. That doesn’t mean I don’t give af— about domestic violence, but I don’t give af— about what you all talk about. That’s something else with myself that I need to check. Like stop reacting.”
She now understands how her words can affect her pockets. But that moment also taught the CEO of Remedy by Ari Makeup to build multiple streams of income.
“But that was a good lesson for me. I needed this because I know I can’t always rely on brands and promote other people’s shit. I need my own shit, my own products. So if something like that happens, I don’t have to worry about not getting paid.”
Critics came for Fletcher after she opened up about her relationship with the rapper purse yo in the podcast in December. During the discussion, the reality star joked about how he gets tamed when she’s upset.
“Like pull out your gun and show me like, ‘B***h, go. I wish you’d walk out the door,'” she told Love, smiling.
After receiving backlash from victims and survivors of domestic violence, Fletcher responded on Instagram Live. In a heated tirade, she repeatedly said, “Nobody cares.”
“You’re ugly. You don’t even have a husband. First of all, who wants to draw a gun on you, especially not to leave,” she said in the video. “Nobody wants that. Not to you. Nobody cares like that very much for you to do this. Second, y’all in the comments are like, “Oh, when I was in a relationship this boy moved out… Nobody cares!… We don’t give a damn. We don’t give a fuck …You want so badly to be a victim. Why do you want to be a victim so badly?”
Soon after, images of Fletcher were removed from the Savage X Fenty website and Instagram. As many may recall, Rihanna is a domestic violence survivor and advocate after an incident over Grammy weekend with Chris Brown in 2009. The two singers were in a relationship that flared up on and off when he reportedly attacked her in a Lamborghini. After a hiatus, they got back together in 2012, to which many disapproved, and things between them ended for good in 2013.
