Reynolds, 46, was recently shortlisted for an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song for the track Good Afternoon, featured in his Christmas film Spirited.
But Jackman, 52, took to Twitter to ask the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences not to recognize the “obnoxious actor’s” work.
All kidding, of course – the two are actually good friends.
“Hey everyone, it’s 2023 and I really, really wanted to send out a positive message earlier in the year but recent events have made that impossible,” Jackman began the Twitter video.
“Don’t get me wrong, I love it Spirited, It’s a great movie.
“The whole family saw it… I love Will [Ferrell]I love Octavia [Spencer] … and Good Afternoon, the song, I laughed the whole time.
“It’s absolutely brilliant. However, I just heard that the Academy has been shortlisted Good day in the Best Song category.
“Ryan Reynolds getting a Best Song nomination would make the next year of my life unbearable.
“I have to spend a year with him to do Wolverine and Deadpool.
“Trust me. It would be impossible. That would be a problem.”
The video has been viewed more than 10 million times and liked by more than 55,000 people.
However, Reynolds had his own comeback.
“Disagree. I think the deepfakes who sang and danced for Will and I would love to perform at the Oscars,” Reynolds wrote.
Merriam-Webster’s administrator even posted a new definition of the word “unbearable” under Jackman’s post.
“Intolerable: adjective. 1: unbearable. 2: Spend a year with a newly validated Ryan Reynolds,” they wrote.
“We need to be a fly on the wall of this new Wolverine x Deadpool movie set,” said another.
“Hugh – remember – keep your friends close. Keep your enemies closer!” advised another.
Just before Christmas, Jackman posted an adorable video of him and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness dancing in front of their Christmas tree.
On the side, as many people noticed, was a cardboard cutout of Reynolds in Spirited.
“Ryan Reynolds cardboard cutout…I’m dead,” one person wrote.
“I really thought Ryan was going to start moving,” noted another.
Jackman and Reynolds have had a hilarious public “bromance” since meeting on the set of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2008.
They often joke in interviews that they don’t get along and try to get a little bit ahead on the red carpet.
Reynolds is also fond of describing Jackman’s authentic friendliness as “tearing”.
“I mean, he’s just really just the nicest guy you would ever meet, and that drives me nuts at times,” Reynolds told the Smartless podcast last year.
“Unfortunately there is no ‘but’. He really is the real deal.”
