Hubert Davis makes an emotional pass after UNC advances to Final Four

UNC head coach Hubert Davis broke down in tears after North Carolina qualified for the Finals with a landslide victory over Saint Peter’s in the Elite Eight.
During Hubert Davis’ first year as North Carolina basketball program director, he made it to the Finals with UNC.
Despite being the 8th seed, Tar Heels outplayed everyone in the Eastern Regional Finals. North Carolina had no problem crushing Cinderella this year by dominating Saint Peter’s Peacocks number 15 from pretty much every opening. The UNC alums face enormous pressure to take over the North Carolina program for iconic Roy Williams. Naturally, Davis was deeply moved.
Of all the head coaches who led his team to the Finals, Davis left the best reaction in the end.
“I just desperately want this for them. I love these boys so much.”

Getting to the Finals is always special, but there’s nothing like doing it for the first time. Davis not only did it at his alma mater, but did so in his first season as a college basketball legend and mentor at Williams. There was a period late in the regular season where it looked like North Carolina wouldn’t be in the league, but take a look at them now.
As fate would have it, North Carolina will face arch rival Duke in Finals 4 on Saturday night. The Tar Heels ruined Mike Krzyzewski’s final home game in Durham at the end of the regular season. Duke had won the match the previous year at Chapel Hill. With this being Coach K’s final Final before he calls his career, it will be the most anticipated national semifinal in tournament history.
Whoever wins Saturday night will face the winner of another national semifinal between two blue-blooded Kansas college basketball teams Jayhawks No. 1 and Villanova Wildcats No. 2. Aside from Davis, apparently, three coaches The other head coaches have all won national titles at their current schools. Kansas has the longest title drought of the three, since 2008.
Just imagine how Davis would feel if he saw off Coach K’s retirement next weekend.
