Siena @ American
Current record: Siena 4-6; America 4-8
What to know
The Siena Saints will return on Tuesday and take on the American Eagles at 2 p.m. ET on December 28 at Bender Arena. The Saints will move forward after a victory while the Americans will stumble after a defeat.
Siena didn’t have too much trouble against the Holy Cross Crusaders in the two-week run when they won 72-59.
Meanwhile, a win for the Americans wasn’t due to the stars last Tuesday as the team never even got a temporary lead. They were perhaps a little lost in the holiday spirit, giving the George Mason Patriots an easy 67-44 win. Americans were certainly aware of their 16.5-point disadvantage in terms of score odds, but prior knowledge did nothing to prevent this outcome. One thing holding the Americans back was the mediocrity of defensive play. Stacy Beckton Jr., who didn’t have his best game: he played for 31 minutes but got only nine points.
Saints are now 4-6 while the Eagles sit at 4-8. Two defensive stats to keep in mind while watching: Siena lets their opponents shoot 46.10% off the floor on average, which is the 26th highest shot rate allowed in college basketball. The Americans experienced some of their own struggles as opponents averaged 49.90% off the floor, which is the 355th highest shooting rate allowed in college basketball. Good news? Teams may see more of their shots fall.
