How to unlock rat form in V Rising

V Rising offers you many ways to tackle challenges in its open world. While your weapons will get you past most obstacles, you also have some more specialized tools at your disposal in the form of a variety of animal transformations. Wolf form is fast and manoeuvrable, bear form can destroy large obstacles if you run out of explosives, and bat form allows you to reach higher ground with ease. However, if you want to take a more stealthy approach, you’ll find that the rat form can be your best friend.

How to summon the Putrid Rat

Similar to the other forms in V Rising, you unlock the rat form by harvesting V blood from a powerful boss. However, unlike the other forms, the required V-Blood Bearer named Putrid Rat cannot be tracked down at the Blood Altar. That’s because you’re not chasing the lazy rat, you’re luring it into your mansion with a vermin nest.

In addition to having a Bug Nest, the Woodworking Bench must also be unlocked as this recipe requires fishing. To complete the Putrid Rat recipe, you will need a Twilight Snapper, three Fish Bones, and six Grave Dust. The twilight snapper in particular can be a challenge, so make sure you know where to find the best fishing spots before heading out for a night on the lake.

How to defeat the rotten rat

Summoning the Sloth Rat is as simple as throwing the ingredients into the vermin nest and waiting a few seconds. Before you start, we recommend getting a Gear Score of at least 30 if you want to avoid being outperformed. The Putrid Rat is no different than many other bosses in the game as it just requires some patience to wait for attack openings as it isn’t particularly fast. However, watch out about halfway through the fight, as the giant rodent will summon a swarm of his rat friends for reinforcements.

Once you defeat your scurrying foe, you can use Rat Form like any other vampire power. Drag and drop it from the skill selector menu into the wheel. Then open the wheel by holding left ctrl and select it by hovering over the rat icon.
