How to transfer your games from Bethesda Launcher to Steam

Bethesda announced in February of this year that they were discontinuing the Bethesda Launcher. This came after Microsoft acquired Bethesda in March 2021. During the acquisition, Microsoft promised more Xbox and PC exclusivity. It seems they are bringing the community closer together by removing the Bethesda.net launcher. PC gamers seem to be divided in their opinions. After some of the answers to the original Announcement tweet from Bethesda, some say it’s a “big deal”. Others welcome the change, saying it’s “a pointless launcher.” Regardless of your opinion, the launcher will be retired on May 11th.

Players who have games in the Bethesda.net Launcher will need to transfer them to Steam. This process can be performed now so that you are ready for the sunset on May 11th. All games you currently own will be available on Steam, including game history, save files, in-game currency, skins, and other game-ons. Read on to learn more about the transfer.

Step 6. Transfer save files

Now that your games have been transferred to Steam, you need to transfer the save files. Some saved files will be transferred automatically. However, most must be manually copied to the Steam save folder on your computer. Every game is slightly different. Once you’re logged into the Bethesda.net site, you’ll find specific instructions for each game and how to transfer the save files to the new Steam folder.

The only exceptions are Wolfenstein: Youngblood, which unfortunately cannot transfer save files. DOOM Eternal also requires some additional steps to transfer files.

Using Steam

After everything is transferred, you can play all your favorite Bethesda games directly from Steam. Make sure you copy the save files and make sure you have the right Steam account to keep things running smoothly.
