How to tame a Ferox in Ark: Survival Evolved

There are some creatures in Ark: Survival Evolved that look terrifying and some that are endearing, like the Ferox. This small, humble creature is one of the more powerful tames players can keep around. Addicted to the element and capable of dealing out tremendous amounts of damage, the Ferox is a great tame not only for its usefulness, but also because most of the time it’s very cute. This guide will detail how to tame a Ferox in Ark: Survival Evolved.

Where to find the Ferox in Ark: Survival Evolved?

The Ferox is a relatively new creature introduced with the launch of Genesis. As such, it’s not found on many of the older maps, and you can only find them on:

• genesis
• Creation part 2
• Lost Island
• fjordur

The ferox is easy to overlook or even mistaken for another tame one, the jerboa; However, the two should never be confused. The Ferox is not aggressive and will walk towards the player and seek your attention.

What you need and how to tame the Ferox in Ark: Survival Evolved

Arguably the easiest place to tame the Ferox is on the Genesis Part 2 map. This is thanks to the Federation Tek Suit and the stash of Element you can get easily. Although the Ferox looks adorable, it is actually an element addict and will try to kill you if you try to tame it.

To start the taming process, you must have Element in your hotbar in any slot. Then, when the Ferox approaches you in its small form, you have to press the button your element is bound to. This triggers the element use event near the Ferox, which in turn causes the very cute, seemingly adorable Ferox to mutate and go berserk.

The enraged state will cause the Ferox to attack everything in its radius indiscriminately. That includes you, so the best tactic is to attack the element and run as fast as possible. Note that the Ferox is incredibly fast. So use your tek suit sprint to escape or double jump into the sky.

Once the Ferox’s mutation has run riot, it blacks out and reverts to its small form. This is your mark to trigger the element reaction again. Run away again while the Ferox is raging and feed it more Element when it calms down.

Once you’ve tamed the Ferox, you can pick it up and place it on your shoulder like any other shoulder pet. However, the Ferox can also transform into its mutant form and as such, deal increased damage and run incredibly fast.
