How to switch to the cockpit view in Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7 puts you in a first-person view behind the wheel by default, and for some this may be enough. Others like a cockpit view though, and thankfully that’s included in GT7. Here’s how to change it.

You can switch to the cockpit view at any time while you are in a race by pressing the R1 button. It switches to four different angles: the wheel view, a close-up camera, a hood view, and finally the cockpit view. You may have to press R1 multiple times to get the angle you want.

In a Gran Turismo 7 race, changing perspectives can be strategic. You can keep an eye out for rival racers coming to the side of your vehicle, or take a visual shot of an upcoming turn. Or it could just be a preference, since you get to see your car in all its glory rather than the wheel. This vantage point may also be loved by those who’ve played the Forza Horizon series on Xbox and PC, as the cockpit is the default is.

In the cockpit view you can take advantage of the game Ray tracing mode. You will see flashes of light on the hood of the car creating a spectacle as you drive around the track. How to switch to the cockpit view in Gran Turismo 7
