How to scale walls in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

During your travels through the lands of Xenoblade Chronicles 3, you may have noticed an icon on the mini-map that looks like a climbing axe. You might also have noticed a few walls that are an odd color compared to their surroundings. Approaching these walls does nothing right away. You must unlock the ability to climb walls before you can interact with them. After that, you will scale heights beyond your imagination.

How to unlock wall climbing in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

You’ll unlock the ability to climb walls after progressing a bit through the story. You’ll need to make it to chapter three to get the ability, so don’t worry about missing out if you haven’t already. In chapter three you help Colony 4 by recruiting Ethel and liberating her colony.

After completing this portion of the game, travel south to the Elsie’s Spout area. Here you meet Valdi. After defeating them in battle, begin their recruitment quest. Follow her quest to the end and you will unlock her as a heroine. You also gain the ability to climb walls.

How to climb walls

Climbing walls is extremely easy once you unlock the skill. Pay attention to your map and look for climbable areas by finding the icon that looks like a climbing ax like in the image below.

Once you get to an area that you can climb, you’ll see that there are walls that are purple. You don’t have to interact with the walls in any way. You just have to go into the walls and the character you control will start climbing automatically.
