To set up your Nintendo Switch Pro controller for use on Steam, connect your controller to your PC using a USB-C cable. You probably have one of these laying around to charge your controller or a different number of devices using the same plug-in port. Once connected, open Steam.
Select Steam in the top left corner of the screen and open Settings. Go to the Controllers section and click General Controller Settings. This will open a large picture mode for your controller settings. Options listed here include Switch Pro Configuration Support. Make sure this is enabled and your controller is now ready to play any Steam game. To make sure it’s connected you should see a confirmation at the bottom of the screen with configuration options in the top right corner.

Below the box you checked to set up your controller says Use Nintendo button layout. When this is enabled, your buttons will function as marked on the controller. If not, Steam will use your controller like an Xbox controller layout, so A and B will be swapped, as will X and Y.
Now that your Switch Pro controller is connected to Steam, you can change the button layout by right-clicking on the game you want to play in your library and selecting Edit Steam Controller Configuration. Here you can choose what each input will do in-game when using your pro controller. Some games have a standardized layout for you, so check here if everything is the way you want it.
