How to play Fast-8 in Teamfight Tactics

There are several ways to play the savings game in Teamfight Tactics (TFT), and one of those methods is what is known as Fast-8. This means your plan is to reach level 8 as quickly as possible, with the goal of accessing the larger pool of 4 and 5 cost units before other players. This would theoretically give you a better chance of finding exactly the units you’re looking for, especially if one of those units is the mainstay of your composition.

Another case where Fast-8 is possible is when you find yourself with an overwhelming comp or have strong economy augments during the early and midgame. Both could justify going for Fast-8 with just a regular comp, with the goal being to switch to stronger units late game. In all cases, Fast-8 means reaching level 8 early, usually in turns 4-3, 4-4, or 4-5.

Level 2 and 3

If you want to play Fast-8, you need to save a lot of gold. This means that you must either go on a winning streak or a losing streak (depending on which units you find) in order to get as much bonus gold as possible.

Level up normally, like any other leveling strategy. But no matter how much gold you have, at level 6 you don’t have to roll down at all, just make a commitment to keep your streak going. At this point, it would usually turn into a losing streak. Watch your health pool and when things really go wrong, it might be time to move away.

Level 4

This is the phase where we put our plan into action. By round 4-1 at the latest you should be close to level 7, if not level it up. Depending on your economy, you should already be able to increase the power level to 8 in round 4-3, leaving some gold to finally roll down and pick up some hefty 4 and 5 cost units from the carousel.

Options & Tips

  • If your health pool is strong after power leveling to 8, you might want to wait to roll down and instead stretch your strategy to either bet fast-9 or wait for round 5-1 to roll down.
  • If your health drops too low too quickly, Fast-8 may be too risky to engage in. Conversely, an early winning streak could bode well for going for a Fast-8.
  • Look for ways to support your strategy with augments, especially when you feel your economy can’t fully support it – for example, after turning a winning streak into a losing streak. How to play Fast-8 in Teamfight Tactics
