How to Level up Ashes and Summons in Elden Ring

One of the most useful new features in Elden Ring is the ability to summon your own personal pets for difficult encounters. While previously implemented in Souls games as NPC summons, these new Ash summons can be used in many more locations and do not scale enemy HP (unlike player summons). However, Ash Summons start out incredibly weak, so you should know how to level up Ashes and Summons in Elden Ring.

First of all, you need to talk to Roderika who is in the Stormhill Shack near Stormveil Castle to start her quest line. She will search for the Chrysalid keepsake, which can be found deep within Castle Stormveil in the room with rotting corpses and two canine enemies (near the Grafted Scion mini-boss). Turn in Roderika’s keepsake and she will teleport to the Round Table. If you’ve already completed Stormveil Castle, don’t worry – she’ll appear at the round table anyway.

Talk to her and Forgemaster Hewg, constantly selecting the “About Roderika” option. Eventually you will exhaust the dialogue of both and can continue by exiting and re-entering the Round Table. Roderika is now in the same room as Hewg and upgrades your Ashes for a combination of Glovewort items and Runes. Grave Glovewort is used for normal Ash summons like the Wolf Pack, while Ghost Glovewort is used for Special Ashes like Mimic Tear or Bloodhound Knight Flea.
